Four years ago, rapper Big Sean and R&B singer Jhené Aiko suffered an incredible loss with the miscarriage of their unborn child. Recently, the rapper opened up about his grieving process and offered some encouraging words to anyone having a similar experience.
The 36-year-old Detroit musician spoke out about the situation on a podcast episode of “On Purpose with Jay Shetty.” The topic came up during the conversation discussing the rapper’s book “Go Higher: Five Practices for Purpose, Success, and Inner Peace,” when he tapped into some of the personal trials he faced.
One of those situations was the miscarriage of his child with Aiko back in 2020. The world was first notified of the tragic news in the release of his song “Deep Reverence” where he mentioned the loss. In the podcast, he opened up about the matter but began saying he could only speak from a man’s perspective, considering the woman experiences the most trauma firsthand. However, to anyone experiencing a miscarriage he said he wanted them to know they’re worthy.
“I don’t want people to think that because they have a miscarriage that they’re inadequate or that they’re broken. I think that this life is complex, and there are things we do and don’t understand, and I think there’s beauty in everything that’s meant for you,” the rapper said on the podcast.
Big Sean then encouraged families experiencing the same trauma by saying they can always be blessed with a child in another way.
“Sometimes we get so set on a goal, we don’t keep the rest of our doors open, of how the universe could bless us in that way, to not only fill that void, but even make it even greater.”
It appears that blessing eventually came back around for the music couple when they welcomed a baby boy to the world in 2022, Noah Hasani, who is now a healthy two years old.
