While y’all’s dusty president is still dropping incendiary and largely inaccurate tweets about the NFL protests against racial injustice, celebrities are doing the Lord’s work, focusing on the fact that there are thousands of Americans (and non-Americans) who need help after natural disasters have ravaged their states and islands, leaving many in desperate need of access to food, health care and other basic needs.
Queen Beyoncé is the latest celebrity to use her voice, money and influence to encourage all people to help their fellow global citizens who are still searching for a sense of security after earthquakes and hurricanes have hit Mexico, Puerto Rico and multiple other Caribbean islands in successive blows over the past few weeks.
On Thursday night, Beyoncé dropped a remix of the song “Mi Gente” by J Balvin and Willy William, featuring the queen herself, and promising that proceeds will go to disaster relief efforts in the affected states and islands.
A new video of the song also dropped on J Balvin’s YouTube, featuring multiple people dancing and bobbing their heads to the song, and showing off Beyoncé’s Spanish skills.
“We’re heartbroken by the hurricanes and earthquakes that have devastated families around the world,” a statement on Beyoncé’s website reads. “There are many ways to help. We’ve listed a few organizations that are on the ground from Mexico to the Caribbean, lending a hand to those who need it most.”
Bey also featured a list of charities on her site for different countries and states, as well as different causes to which listeners could donate if they decided to go a more direct route.
So far, on YouTube alone, the song is No. 1 on trending and had more than 1.5 million views as of 8 a.m. Friday.
Needless to say, social media lit up at the new song.
Of course, Bey isn’t the only star helping out in the disaster-relief efforts across the world.
Mark Cuban and Pitbull personally loaned their private planes to help with Puerto Rico’s relief efforts. Tidal, Jay-Z’s streaming service, chartered a plane as well to assist in delivery aid.
Singer Rihanna has also been trying to bring Puerto Rico’s crisis to the forefront of Dotard’s mind, tagging him in news about the devastation.
