BET execs must have heard the sound heard round the blogosphere — angry viewers who were disappointed in the 2009 BET Awards. The 2010 BET Awards were much better with real Star Power. However, there was much room for improvement but at this point, we'll take what we can get. Queen Latifah held her own as the hostess with the mostess, donning different personas including Cleo from the film Set It Off (1996). Chris Brown shut it down with his tribute to Michael Jackson — the one we've been waiting for since last year's BET Awards. He had a meltdown at the end and didn't sing, reminding us that he is a young man and a human being. John Legend was lauded with the Humanitarian of the Year Award. Highlights incuded a duet between R&B singer Monica and R&B legend Deniece Williams and multiple performances by El DeBarge. Prince received the lifetime achievement award. One of our favorite performances of the night was the all-female tribute performance included rising stars Janelle Monae, Esperanza Spalding, Alicia Keys and Patti LaBelle. Patti LaBelle and Chaka Khan presented Prince with the award, who was humble and honored. In true BET fashion, they left us on a bad note with an underwhelming performance of "My Chick Bad," by Luda, Rick Ross, Busta Rhymes, P Diddy, T-Pain and a bunch of other random dudes. The show that started with such promise, ended on a bad note, in true BET fashion.
