Kawhi Leonard of the San Antonio Spurs may be sitting on a $94 million contract, but you’d probably be surprised to learn that he’s still frugal. Often talked about because of his impressive stats (he’s currently averaging 21 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists a game) and his quiet demeanor, Leonard recently let Sports Illustrated into his life.

Leonard not only lives in a two-bedroom apartment in San Diego in the offseason but also drives a rehabbed ’97 Chevy Tahoe, which he’s named Gas Guzzler. Leonard’s had the car since he was a teenager and refuses to give it up. He explains why: “It runs,” Leonard says, “and it’s paid off.”

Most people, including his teammates, have also questioned why he’s still rocking cornrows. Although it has nothing to do with being frugal, he’s paying homage to Carmelo Anthony.

And get this: Leonard still uses coupons. As a Wingstop sponsor, he gets coupons sent to him, and he said he actually panicked when he lost them right after signing his contract this past winter!

Maybe Leonard could give his teammates some tips when it comes to saving money.
