Former President Barack Obama sat down with David Letterman for the debut episode of the talk show legend’s Netflix show, My Next Guest Needs No Introduction. The intimate, hourlong interview covered a wide range of subjects, ranging from Obama’s postpresidential family life to world events. There was only one subject they didn’t cover:
The honorable, shithole-mouth vagina grabber.
Even when Letterman engaged the former president on political subjects, Obama hopscotched over the sherbet charlatan’s name and drove the conversation to other areas. Asked about the Russian election meddling, Obama talked about media coverage and how the internet has fractured political discussion.
“One of the biggest challenges we have to our democracy is the degree to which we don’t share a common baseline of facts. If you watch Fox News, you are living on a different planet than you are if you listen to NPR,” Obama explained, intentionally omitting the fact that the Fox News planet is called “Bullshitopia.”
Obama’s avoidance of He Who Shall Not Be Named seems to follow the tradition of past presidents not getting involved with current politics. In his appearance on Prince Harry’s podcast, Still My President Obama also failed to mention Kentucky Fried Hitler.
While America longingly watches Obama as if he was an ex-girlfriend we know we did wrong but we wish we could have back, Obama did mention that he would have run for a third term if not for the Constitution ... and his wife. “Michelle would leave me,” he quipped. “I want her around.”
Why Michelle gotta be so selfish?
Letterman’s Netflix series debuted Friday and will air one interview every month. Subsequent episodes will feature Tina Fey, Howard Stern, Jay-Z and George Clooney.
