On August 28, 2014, former President Barack Obama got his Republican haters all up in their feelings during a press briefing on the United States’ military response to ISIS. But the controversy was less about what he said, “We don’t have a strategy yet,” and more about what he wore. President Obama’s tan suit got plenty of criticism for being too casual for such an important press conference.
“He looked like he was on his way to a party at the Hamptons,” Rep. Peter King (R-NY), told CNN in an interview at the time.
Now, ten years later, our Forever President is marking the anniversary of the infamous wardrobe controversy on Instagram.
“How it started. How it’s going. Ten years later, and it’s still a good look! IWillVote.com,” he captioned his August 28 post which featured a side-by-side shot of him in his tan suit next to a picture of Vice President Harris in a Chloé pantsuit in a similar hue on the first night of the Democratic National Convention last week in Chicago.
Obama’s post has received over 670,000 likes in less than 24 hours, and judging by the comments, most people agree that a tan suit is, in fact, very presidential.
“Tan suits are the Black air force ones of politics now. When we wear them, we are standing on business. AND VOTING,” wrote actor/author Luvvie Ajayi Jones.
Others reminisced on the political good old days when it was the President’s fashion choices rather than felony convictions that had the country divided.
“Remember when a tan suit was the biggest scandal a sitting president had? I miss those days,” wrote one commenter.
Still others applauded the former President for taking a break from his wife, Former First Lady Michelle Obama’s suggestion at the 2016 Democratic National Convention to go high when others go low, with a less than subtle jab at the other side.
“The Obamas are unleashed…..AND IM HERE FOR IT!!” wrote someone.
