So far this year, there have been 100 homicides in Baltimore, and Mayor Catherine Pugh wants the FBI’s help. During her weekly address Wednesday, Pugh said that she wanted to get a handle on the murder rate before the summer begins.

“Murder is out of control,” said Pugh. “There are too many guns on the streets. We’re looking for all the help we can get.”

So far, Pugh and Police Commissioner Kevin Davis have met with the special agent in charge of the Baltimore FBI Field Office and discussed using technology to fight crime, as well as possibly getting the FBI to assist police officers.

“I am expecting some response in reference to some requests that we made. We should probably know by the end of next week about the additional help we are asking for,” she said, according to CNN.

“I’m calling on all the assistance that we can possibly get because I can’t imagine going into the summer months with the crime rate that it is today, what that’s going to look like by the end of the summer,” she noted.

Pugh is slated to make another announcement next week regarding when the FBI presence in Baltimore will increase.
