Some people call the city "Bodymore," while others call the state "Murderland."

One thing residents of Baltimore will see for the first time in three decades is a year in which 200 people aren't killed in their city. Well, they have six days and six murders left to reach that mark, but we are confident that they will keep the peace — at least, we hope.

The city where the shows The Wire and Homicide were both filmed had 194 murders as of this past Friday. While many will look at the shrinking population numbers in Baltimore as the reason the number of murders has declined, the city's police commissioner, Frederick Bealefeld, is encouraged by the shrinking rates.

Without a doubt, 194 murders is way too much, but still, we are encouraged that there is less crime occurring in the former murder capital.
