The Daily Mail is reporting that thousands of mourners defied an army crackdown in Bahrain to attend the funerals of protesters killed in anti-government demonstrations. There were fears that the funerals could spark further violent clashes, since mourners are demanding the downfall of Bahrain's ruling monarchy. The latest protests come after Bahrain's military said it has taken control of key parts of the capital and banned gatherings following the bloody protests that left at least five people dead and more than 200 injured in the tiny Gulf state.
It seems that people should be able to bury the dead without continued threat. The mistreatment of Shiite protesters by the Sunni-controlled government is reflected in how protesters were mowed down by tanks and gunfire by the army. A violent move like that, sanctioned by the government, doesn't leave much hope that they will be respected in life or death.
