Babyface was trending on social media sites on Grammys night, but not for a reason you would expect. The music legend behind some of the greatest R&B hits of all time got snubbed in a major way on the red carpet, with hosts from the Associated Press cutting him off mid-interview to get a moment to chat with the night’s Best New Artist winner, Chappell Roan.

In the now-viral clip, Babyface is clearly in the middle of answering a question to the interviewers, hosts Leslie Ambriz and Krysta Fauria “It’s interesting, um,” the iconic producer and songwriter began to say, before the hosts cut him off, calling out to Chappell Roan. Check out the incredibly award and cringe moment, below.

Later in the broadcast, the host Leslie Abriz apologized to the camera. “First I wanted to say that I’m really sorry about interrupting Babyface earlier. Chappell Roan had come up and there is a lot of commotion as there is on these carpets. I’m a big Babyface fan as are we all, and I just wanted to say that I really apologize.”

Naturally, fans were not happy about the exchange, with many calling the entire moment rude and “disrespectful,” and also highlighting that this all happened on the second day of Black History Month. One user wrote, “Mind you, Babyface is also an honorary member of the Grammy’s Writers and Composers Wing.”
