Before B.B. King died, his daughters, Karen Williams and Patty King, had issues with his business manager, LaVerne Toney, and his personal assistant, Myron Johnson. The daughters alleged that King’s business affairs were being kept from them and that they didn’t have access to their father in the last weeks of his life. Now the daughters are alleging in court documents that Toney and Johnson killed their father.
“I believe my father was poisoned and that he was administered foreign substances,” the daughters said in affidavits provided by their attorney, Larissa Drohobyczer, according to the Associated Press.
Toney is the executor of King’s will, which is worth tens of millions of dollars, AP reports.
In April, Patty King and Williams attempted to have a Las Vegas judge grant them power of attorney over their father, saying that Toney was misusing the guitar legend’s finances as well as barring them from seeing their father. But Clark County Family Court Hearing Master Jon Norheim denied the request and stated that he couldn’t find a reason to take the power of attorney from Toney.
Toney, who worked with B.B. King for 39 years, doesn’t seem to be worried about the daughters and their accusations.
“They’ve been making allegations all along. What’s new?” said Toney.
B.B. King’s death is currently under investigation by the Las Vegas Police Department and an autopsy was performed Sunday. The coroner noted that it will take up to eight weeks to have the results.
