(The Root) — Harlem, N.Y., rapper Azealia Banks is not a newcomer to Twitter controversy. It can be argued that Banks' Twitter rants have defined her career more than her music. On Wednesday, the 22-year-old star took to Twitter to defend appropriation of black culture by white artists. "So white people reappropriating black culture isn't really reappropriating. When black culture is already appropriated white culture. You get it?"
Black Twitter did not get it. Some tweeted that her alleged drug use has impaired her judgment. Some faulted New York City public schools for her lack of analytical skills. Others reached out to engage her in conversation — notably Twitter user @thetrudz, whose roundup of tweets is called "How Azealia Banks Lost a Fan."
