I won’t go so far as to defend the shirt as appropriate. Let’s be clear it was insensitive. I, however, did get a different impression from the shirt that was kind of inspiring. I have a number of friends that if not for sports programs say that would have ended up being “just another statistic” when it comes to black

Agreed. After the fourth time (spaced out over 5 months) I just said, “If your schedule opens up let me know.” Never heard back. I dodged a bullet anyway.

I’d simply appreciate the “I’m not interested” at least it’s honest. It’s better than getting “Oh, I’m sorry, I’m busy.” for 3 months.

I learned this in an interesting way. At the age of 27 I’d just gotten a new job and broken up with my girlfriend at the time. I ended up traveling solo a lot. On the social side a lot of my friends had just gotten married or had kids. I got used to exploring unfamiliar cities in my free time when I traveled for work

Not to be the “me too” guy in this thread but this could also be the “What not to say to minorities in tech/science”.

I said almost the exact same thing to a friend of mine who I was texting during the segment.

That actually sums up my general policy at this point.

Agreed on the tipping. I didn't realize until my early twenties that I should probably tip the pizza guy. Also, I'd never been chauffeured anywhere until the age of 27, so I had no idea if I was supposed to tip my driver when it was some else who'd arranged my transportation. I just don't know sometimes.

Good shot! I was watching this movie trying to figure it out. I kept saying, "I know this character." Smart, invested in multiple industries, attractive Asian woman at his side, it all connects.

I remember one time when in seventh grade, while I was going to a private (mostly white) middle school, one of my best friends at the time was helping me prepare workbook pages for extra credit after school. It's then I realized while we were talking that he'd never had a black friend before. He was super-curious

If you will notice...yellow is the predominant race in Lego world, thus...yellow is equivalent to being white. Superman, Batman, Green Lantern, all "white/yellow". Morgan Freeman's character...brown.

Props to the contributor for listening to Childish Gambino and even more so for "Sweatpants". One of my favorite songs and favorite artists.

I say three is the route only if you're going to use multiple types of cheese. When I worked at Steak n' Shake in college I used to eat a grilled cheese on break. Then I upgraded to the Bacon Grilled Cheese, which had three slices. I'd always go two slices American and one slice of Swiss. Bolder patrons would order

I know a guy who had similar rules. He never spanked in anger, he explained the punishment and always said something to the effect of "lay across the bed and it's going to be 3 ( or 4 or 5 or how ever many fit the "crime") spanks". He'd never hit with a hand typically a belt. I respected that.

Now the translation is interesting because I have quite a few friends whose last name is Finch. The translation, modification and sometimes complete changing of last names (especially due to immigration) has always been fascinating to me.

No I don't have any Polish friends or live near a Polish community (luck/unluck of the draw I suppose). I had some friends from Ukraine in high school along with a few other European countries but I typically heard their names before I saw them spelled. But I'm a very phonetic reader so it frustrates me to

You're kidding right? My brain just saw two Zs and wanted to give up. And WHY IS THE "Y" SILENT!?!?!? LOL I'm only joking a little. Is that a real name? It looks like it could be real but you could also be good at toneless internet humor.

I'm alright with that too...

Between your analogy and your username, you're alright in my book.

I'm not a sports guy but as much as I know about averages and baseball, you'd hate to see a guy who bats a .900 step up to the plate right? I'm not saying Pat was right or wrong in the issue I'm just saying I think he adjusted appropriately for an offhanded joke for which he meant no offense.
