Kamala Harris shifted out of the weeds of healthcare policy by discussing reproductive health. She is smart enough to know that people are not gonna follow the nuts and bolts arguments around healthcare specifics.

The debate is opening up with candidates addressing whether they support impeachment. So far, most support the inquiry. 

Afghanistan is a major issue that impacts many American families. So far, each of the candidates is doing a good job of presenting their experience. Cory Booker is doing a good job of connecting wars to Americans here by saying that the country do a terrible job of treating our veterans with dignity and respect.

Well, one thing is clear: Joe Biden is proving that he is riding Barack Obama’s coattails and that the only reason he is ahead in the polls is because of a black man’s legacy. So, my story on this is not up yet, but the national security experts I spoke with told me Kamala Harris’ gun control plan is solid. 

So far, Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren are effectively fending off Joe Biden’s insistence that their healhcare plans are impractical. What it comes down to is whether Warren and Bernie can prove to Americans their new vision for healthcare is better than an expansion of the Affordable Health Care Act (Obamacare).

So, I am at a Texas Black Caucus event here at the Ensemble Theater in downtown Houston with a room full of elected black officials and other colored folks. And the person who evoked the most emotional support from the crowd with their opening statements so far was Andrew Yang.

I walked around downtown Detroit to get a feel for the pre-debate climate and saw a robust pro-Trump presence (though most were from the suburbs), which is a disconcerting sight given how racist this president has been and how black this city is. (It is the biggest black city in America, percentage-wise.)
