I think there’s a simplistic notion of privilege that gets bandied about, a distortion and reductive vision mocked by conservatives that gets the entire concept wrong. They see it as a duality, privileged or not, rather than understanding it’s a complex set of variables interacting and situational.

You are??? Omg im so excited girl! They better let you post it here lol. You have such a strong voice and im only sorry that i did not know about your work until now. we are lucky to have someone as insightful and engaged as you

Damn, this is a good article! Got me to thinking! Thank you!

Yea, I remember Charles Murray using Asians to cover up his white supremacist agenda. It didn’t work, except for Asian intellectuals like Any Chua (tiger mom?) who put forward her own version of the Bell Curve with ‘The Triple Package Theory”. Whereas Murray used the Asian IQ as a shield, Amy Chua and her white

Could not hit “star” hard enough. Thanks for this.

More from this writer!

This article was absolutely fantastic. Everything you said needed to be said and this needs to be shared on college campuses all over the country for Asian American students and other young people to see. Too many of them play into the model minority myth or go out of their way for White acceptance right up to being

I enjoyed hearing your voice on The Root. I love that this site is morphing into a place where all people of color come together to discuss, inform, and entertain.

I don’t really have anything to add other than to say that Ajit Pai is a toolbox and a corporate puppet fuckboy.

Ajit can shove it up his Pai hole.

I wish I could start this 100 more times. Fantastic article.

very, very powerful stuff aditi. thank you.

Great article. I wish more pieces were written on this topic. To defeat white supremacy minorities have to empathize with the struggles of each group and become allies.

Holy shit! Best read all week! As good as it was to see expressed, it also highlights the obstacles to finding a bridge to solidarity between Asian and African Americans. We are both put in the Colosseum and told to fight, but only one has (historically) been Caesars favorite. How do I, as a Black man, find empathy

Some clear proof of this is the fact that a lot of white supremacists who argue that black people are less intelligent than white people will often point to the “findings” from The Bell Curve that Asians test at higher IQs than white people as evidence that they’re not racist. “See, we’re not being racist when we use

I’m speechless. Thank you; that was tremendous.

Actually most people know Her. was a brown person in the book...and even Rowling made a point last year when they cast a black woman as Her. in a London play, to defend the choice of a black Her. It was Hollywood who cast a white girl to play the role.

I really liked Moon, really good stuff. Never saw the warcraft movie, but I want Jones to do more science fiction, he has real talent.

Can I propose a #7?

It’s a shame too, because this is a generational thing especially within entertainment business. That will last for a long time. So, we don’t get to see actual raw talent, or individuality. I mean think about it, because of their bromidic work and their lack of awareness we get films like La La Land. I honestly don’t
