“In fact, some questioned the veteran photographer’s ability to light brown skin—a suggestion not only insulting to Leibowitz, but also to the aesthetic she has so deliberately developed and diplomatically adhered to throughout her now 50-year career.”

Thank you for this excellent article. I’m a volunteer clinic escort at the only abortion center in Kentucky. I am also the only Black woman escort in our group. The things anti-choicers say are terrible in general. But it’s even worse for Black clients & volunteers. They tell me that I’m contributing to “black

Yeah she’s probably full of shit, but he’s been a celebrity for decades. He should have a way thicker skin by now. If he just clapped back once or twice it wouldn’t even be a story, but he didn’t just call her out. He went in hard, with a hell of a lot of tweets to a random person. He really should have other things

Thanks for this! So many women activists, particularly in the civil rights era (1950's - 1970's) and their hard consistent work are overshadowed by men and their work. Women in the movement did ‘the double shift’ just like we do at home. Work all day outside the home, go home and work another shift. It is past time to

While admittedly not in the target demographic, of the men listed I think Trevante Rhodes is the closest to Morris Chestnut Fine.

Thanks so much for writing this - I think you have and will touch a lot of women. I was right where you are but at the age of 45. Had suffered from depression on and off throughout my adult life but didn’t really get it under control until my 40s. I have dated on and off for years but, after being abused by my father

Thank you so much for sharing your story. I’m 42 as well, and single, and struggling with the realization that children may no longer be an option for me. In my twenties, I did everything ‘right.’ I met the boy, I married the boy, I started on my path towards a career and a future that I thought would include
