I was also confused by Ji-Ah’s appearance in the episode...and once she shows up, further confused by Tic’s rage. After time and all that’s happened since, wouldn’t he want to seek aid or understanding from her...? I rewatched that scene twice and still puzzled by it.

I don’t quite understand what the show wants me to think about their relationship.”

it’s v exasperating

Ikr? There is so much depth, history and love in these features. Best part of my week.

Thanks for your as usual excellent reviews! You can really feel all the different threads and pieces of this showing coming together. It’s really gratifying.

I don’t quite understand what the show wants me to think about their relationship. I had thought that Ruby was just enticed by the power Christina offered, but does Christina actually like Ruby or are they merely using them for access to Tic/Leti?

Oh yes, I completely hear you, I have NO JUDGEMENT about your reaction. And I completely agree that the commentariat *demanding* that the Black woman writer of those reviews *condemn* the scene (as opposed to just commenting on it) was completely inappropriate because a) Black women have gone so “high” at this point

It maybe because Christina identifies more as a man? She seems to be a lot better of a person when embodying William. But the show has fumbled with transgender themes, so it’s probably better that Christina’s gender identity and the queerness surrounding it is not addressed.

“This episode remembers and brings forth the righteous rage of the moment and places it front and center.”

I mean, *I* was kind of FUCK THAT GUY bc I’m angry at the patriarchy, the white patriarchy, rapists, etc - it channeled my rage as well. also, who knows what kind of violence he’d already put upon black bodies. I know we’re supposed to turn the other cheek and shit, but you can’t ask Black Women to continue to go high

Every week I look forward to this show and I have yet to be disappointed. Without saying more than necessary or covering anything that you haven’t already - those twins were the creepiest shit I have seen in years. I’m a 50 y.o. Black dude who has viewed pictures of lynches and police violence and countless other acts

i think it is interesting that a multitude of dark skinned “other-bodied” black women find themselves in interracial “achem” situations usually with the response of colorism in the black community being the main issue.

I knew so little about this history. All of it makes me want to break shit.

My thoughts on Christina’s “I want to know what it’s like” scene:

“I wanted the world to see what they did to my baby.”—Mamie Till

The flip side of this (relevant to the episode) is what Emmet Till’s mom did by letting her son be viewed in an open casket. I can’t imagine the pain involved in that decision, and really admire her for making it so everyone knew EXACTLY what was done to her precious child.

Yeah I make sure I watch Lovecraft Country before dark;)

Plus the way white America seems to want to bend over backwards accommodating and assimilating recently immigrating Africans (& to a lesser extent Afro-Carribeans).
