I am an author, journalist and professor. My first book, Love, Peace and Soul, the behind-the-scenes story of the television show, Soul Train, was published in 2013.

A dangerous and insidious attitude. As soon as you make getting a seat at the table a priority then all that happens is you start giving up ground to keep your seat at the table. Either the people already at the table care about your needs or they don’t, and if they don’t then any attempt to get a seat at the table is

The root of this problem (no pun intended) is (to paraphrase Orwell) that all people are equal, but some people are more equal than others. Many definitely-not-racist (white) people like diversity and equality, but they also like the structures that they’ve created that perpetuate inequality. They still want to be

There you go making excuses for a racist system. You’re pretty much what the article is talking about.

Excellent article. I had never read the Toni Morrison quote, “If you have to have someone underneath you to feel tall, that’s a sickness and neurosis that needs to be examined.” I always wanted a more succinct way to explain how when people feel like they’re on a lower social stratus / economic class, they tend to

Excellent write-up, Ericka.

K&P trivia - the introducing sketches on stage is not part of the show they pitched, nor what they wanted to do but Comedy Central INSISTED it was their ‘bread-and-butter’ and were adamant if they wanted a show, they had to do the intros. That’s why after Season 2 they were just in the car shooting the shit, that had

I love Dave, but if he had made enough money and grown bigger as a solo artist, he would’ve never started singing gospel. And, if he had made enough money and become a huge gospel star, he would’ve never gone back to sing R&B.

Love this! He is truly unsung and for why?

I don’t see this having any effect on prosecution of cops. They rarely do it anyway.

They would have to be “independent” investigations rather than simple prosecutions. I believe the lawyer was saying that what seemed like an attempt to remain impartial by convening this allowed her exposure to the suit.

All biased prosecutors have to do is conduct a sham Grand Jury proceeding a la McGinty in Cuyahoga

Damn. This is such complete and utter bullshit. Law enforcement officers must be investigated by other law enforcement officers? How is that ethical? What was Attorney Mosby supposed to do? How did she not have probable cause?

How is this lawsuit allowed to continue? If a citizen was falsely arrested and tried and then attempted to sue the prosecutors and the police; the judge would have tossed the case with nary a thought.

You know what though? Go ahead and open this door. Go right ahead.
