Ok. I am glad I am not the only person that gets serious gentrification vibes from “Good Bones”. That REALLY bothers me about that show. Otherwise, it’s alright.

I absolutely feel this piece! My deep love of LA radio station KROQ defined my high school life in the 80's. Of course I was also a Black girl who lived and went to school in South LA, so I kept that part of my life down pretty low. I kinda sorta found a semi-tribe of similarly minded misfits in high school, but even…
And stop correcting folks when they add that extra S on the end of a word. I know, you know, and they know they S doesn’t belong there; you being pedantic about the whole thing just makes you look like you need a stick pulled out of your behind.
Who knew that there were letting Pokemon practice dentistry:
I like both shows as well, but I am a little leery of Good Bones, if only because they are pretty openly gentrifying largely lower socioeconomic areas of their city.
I have a soft spot in my heart for his performance as Edna Turnblad in Hairspray. He is better at comedy than he gets credit for.
I call that time period the Holy Trinity of John Travolta movies: Saturday Night Fever, Grease, and Urban Cowboy. And you are absolutely correct: all three roles were about performative masculinity.
Excellent documentary, and not just because a friend of mine is in it, albeit briefly. It really does shine a huge light on how anytime POC are peacefully enjoying anything, in this case skating, certain others will go out of their way to shut it down.
I have a bottle of this at work on my desk. I probably was my hands a half dozen times a day at work alone, so moisture is DEFINITELY a thing. Nivea gives good bang for the buck as well: all of the moisturizing of a more expensive lotion at about 1/2 the price.

I was dead at Hotepedemic. The rest of the piece was just gravy.
Good Evening, Jezzies!
I hadn’t watched SNL in YEARS before being forced to watch it because my teen daughter is into Harry Styles. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by the number of times I laughed out loud during the show. The Doug the Dog number is going to be a new classic! Plus the aforementioned Sara Lee skit.
Happy Birthday, fellow Scorpio! (My birthday is Wednesday!), I love ending up with a day off around my birthday. It just makes it that much more festive!
My two favorite scenes in Beaches are when Bette’s character is singing in the recording studio juxtaposed over Barbara Hershey’s character researching her illness, and of course the doggone funeral scene makes me cry EVERY TIME!
SAME! My daughter eluded potty training at home for the longest time, but potty trained at daycare like a champ.
Hmmm... I might have to check these out. With my newly diagnosed plantar fasciitis, my good ole flip-flops are a no go. The comments seem pretty good.
We have to be around the same age! The first two computer classes I took were in 8th and 9th grade, so basically 1984 and 1985. At the time, the first PCs were being issued to schools, and of course we never got the newest stuff. We got Apple IIc's and Apple IIe's with the 3.5in floppy disks for storage. Super basic…
Brought out of the greys as you point out that there are quite a few different avenues to pursue once you’ve started down to IT rabbit hole. Although my specialties are more end-user related (I play well with others), I also have quite a bit of interest in Networking, Security, and Intrusion Detection and…
Brought out of the greys because you bring up an interesting point: Would I have been treated differently if I were more conventionally attractive? Maybe, but do remember that for women, being conventionally attractive can sometimes be the proverbial double-edged sword: while some people might be more likely to go out…
I used to have this as a discreet sign inside my cubicle when I had full sized walls. It never failed to either crack up other techs, or confuse the users.
