I watch South African politics from a outside but interested perspective. In that my Grandparents were Jewish South Africans and my family was heavily involved in the anti-apartheid movement.

South Africa is sliding into a Rhodesia-like situation. Dignity doesn’t mean a lot if everything goes to hell in a hand basket, crime is rampant, unemployment is spiraling, expected lifespans are dropping, and the future is steadily bleaker.

Let me just (briefly) say this as a white South African (and yes I SUCK at writing summaries):

Loved the film. Almost completely.

It feels somewhat sad, that Africa needs a Hollywood movie to learn about its potential. That it must rely on USA’s culture and stories made by Hollywood to feel pride and hope. But, it’s not a bad thing to inspire other people.

Kind of shits on the “Has anyone asked people in Africa what they think?!” angle the failed campaign against this movie was trying to come at.

My only hope is that this film can sneak a message into Africa that not all Americans are like our temporary leader, the Annoying Orange. And that some people here can understand other countries and their beliefs and hopes, no matter how many tweets get sent out. (Mind you, these are just the hopes of a white man, who…

Well I thought it was fresh, vibrant, beautifully rhythmic, and real.
