Two years ago, Atlanta debuted on FX, and it immediately became a hit. With a first-season win for Donald Glover of Primetime Emmys for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series and Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series, as well as a Peabody and Golden Globe awards, was there any doubt that the show would be renewed for a third season? Absolutely not, and Atlanta is returning to FX in 2019.
“Atlanta is phenomenal—achieving and exceeding what few television series have done,” Nick Grad, co-president of original programming for FX Networks and FX Productions, said Thursday, Variety reports.
Glover, along with Brian Tyree Henry, Zazie Beetz and Lakeith Stanfield, proved that the second season was definitely worth waiting almost two years for, so there’s no telling what’s being concocted for the third season.
“With Atlanta: Robbin’ Season, Donald and his collaborators elevated the series to even greater heights, building on the enormous success of their award-winning first season,” Grad added. “We’re grateful to the producers and our extraordinary cast and crew for achieving this level of excellence, and we share the excitement with our audience about the third season knowing they will continue to take us to unexpected and thrilling places.”
Congrats to Glover and his team.
