Assata Shakur (formerly known as Joanne Chesimard), the Black Liberation Army member who killed a New Jersey state trooper in 1973 and escaped from prison in 1979, has been placed on the FBI's Most Wanted Terrorists list, New York's Daily News reports.
Officials from the FBI and the New Jersey state police announced on Thursday that a reward of up to $1 million has been offered for information leading to the capture and return of Shakur, who is the first woman ever to appear on the Most Wanted Terrorists list. According to law-enforcement authorities, she is believed to be living in Cuba under political asylum.
