If you’ve ever watched “Love Jones,” you know Larenz Tate oozes charm out of every single one of his pores. And if you haven’t seen it, shame on you. The talented actor known for iconic roles in films like “Menace II Society” and “Dead Presidents,” is currently playing Councilman Rashad Tate in the Power series. But Tate recently let fans and Hollywood executives know he’s ready to show off his softer side again.

In a July 17 Instagram video, Tate put out a call for a role that lets him play “somebody’s husband.”

“I’ve been in these business meetings out here in these Hollywood streets and it’s interesting ’cause often times people in these rooms wanna know what I wanna do,” he said. “I’m like ‘I gotta do something romantic.’ I wanna play somebody’s husband!”

Tate, who has been married in real life to his wife, Tomasina Parrott, since 2006, goes on to say that he’s open to any genre, as long as he has a love interest.

“It can be a comedy. It can be dramatic. It can be something that’s tense — suspense! Whatever the genre is, I’m feeling the love. I’m feeling the love; that’s all,” he said.

Naturally, the comment section blew up with calls for him to reprise his role as hopelessly romantic poet Darius Lovehall in a “Love Jones” sequel in which he’s married to Nia Long’s character, Nina Mosley. But other commenters had no problem kicking Long to the curb in a “Love Jones” reboot and inserting themselves as Tate’s on-screen wife instead.

Some users took the opportunity to shoot their shot, leaving comments like:

“Currently practicing lines to audition to be his wife in this film🥴😂” and “Challenge accepted!!! (Googling acting classes in my area).”

Tate has admitted that he’s open to the possibility of playing Darius again. But as he told Alabama Life & Culture in 2023, he wants to make sure ”Love Jones 2" lives up to audiences’ expectations.

“It would be hard for us to catch lightning in the bottle twice. So Nia [Long, costar of Love Jones] and I have been trying to figure out what that would look like. But we feel like we should do something, but something different. TV show, movies that could be a franchise—we’ve discussed everything,” he said.
