English teacher Cicely Cobb says she has been tormented by students and administrators at Desert Vista High School in Ahwatukee, Ariz., because of her race, and that the matter has escalated since she filed a lawsuit against the school and the Tempe Union High School District in February, the Raw Story reports.
Students brazenly disrespect her to her face, Cobb charges, including in a video posted to YouTube that shows students hitting her on the head with pieces of paper as she tries to back away and raises her hand to deflect them.
But the worst of the bullying takes place online, Raw Story reports.
"Regardless of my talents I am still the black person that it's OK to make fun of," Cobb told news station KPHO.
Students mock her on Twitter telling her to sign up for an all-black dating site, as well as implying that she is a prostitute, among other horrifying offenses, the educator says. One photo that was posted of her was almost minstrel-like in appearance and spoke to a negative time in the nation's racial history, Cobb told KPHO.
"The minstrel photo was absolutely sick," Cobb said. "Minstrel jokes were associated with my grandfather who was born in 1912."
"These children just had no respect for me or my authority," she added.
