Aretha Franklin's now-canceled engagement may go down in history as one of the quickest celebrity engagement cancellations ever. The legendary singer said in a statement Monday that her wedding to William "Willie" Wilkerson will not happen, according to the Associated Press.

"Will and I have decided we were moving a little too fast, and there were a number of things that had not been thought through thoroughly. There will be no wedding at this time," Franklin said. "We will not comment on it any further because of the very personal and sensitive nature of it. We appreciate all of the many well wishes from friends."

The 69-year-old had announced shortly after New Year's Day that she was getting married, with Vera Wang and Donna Karan as possible gown designers. It was to be held in the Hamptons on New York's Long Island or in Miami.
