Was the Bad Girls Club just practice for Shannade Clermont? Because right now, she’s facing charges for stealing a dead man’s identity.
The Clermont Twins are best known for their roles on Oxygen’s reality series Bad Girls Club, being models for Kanye West’s Yeezy fashion line and, of course, being Instagram celebs.
The pair always boasts about the money they have but how they’ve been racking up that coin is now coming into question.
Shannade, one half of the duo, was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly stealing a dead man’s debit card information after meeting him for a $400 “prostitution date,” according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Clermont was charged with wire fraud, access device fraud and aggravated identity theft, according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Following the arrest, she was released on a $100,000 bail, according to the Associated Press.
“As alleged, Shannade Clermont, a former cast member of the ‘Bad Girls Club,’ lived up to her reality series reputation. She allegedly stole debit card information from a man found dead – the victim of a drug overdose – in his Manhattan apartment and used his identity to make tens of thousands of dollars in fraudulent purchases. Thanks to the skilled investigative work of the NYPD, Clermont’s new reality is federal prosecution for her alleged nefarious conduct,” U.S. Attorney Geoffrey S. Berman said in the statement.
Clermont met with the man in his Manhattan apartment on Jan. 31, 2017, according to text messages obtained by investigators.
Video footage showed Clermont walking into the building around 5:30 p.m. and leaving before 9 p.m. The following day, Feb. 1, 2017, the man, who hasn’t been identified, was found dead in his apartment from an overdose.
Following his death, the man’s debit cards showed various charges, adding up to more than $20,000. Clermont allegedly bought luxury clothing, plane tickets, paid her rent and phone bill and wired herself money with the information.
While waiting in Manhattan federal court for the judge to enter, AP reported that Clermont looked at her twin and mouthed “sorry” before breaking down into tears.
