Not all skin is created equal when it comes to skin care. And we're not talking just makeup. Angela Bassett has teamed up with her friend Dr. Barbara Sturm, a widely known skin-care expert, to create a skin-care line that addresses the needs of women with darker skin.

When Bassett approached Sturm about her own skin issues, including breakouts and irritations, she used Strum's original line. But then, she says, she realized there were issues, such as hyperpigmentation, that darker-skinned women have to deal with. And, so, Darker Skin Tones by Dr. Barbara Sturm was born.

The line is said to help with inflammation, hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tone. All of these issues are things women with dark skin tones can't easily hide.

“Our main ingredient, which goes through our whole line, is purslane,” Sturm told WWD. “It’s also an herb, and it has such powerful properties in every direction. But what I like the most is actually the youth enzyme, this telomerase activator. The telomerase activates an enzyme to keep those ends of the chromosomes long, which actually works against natural programmed cell death, and that’s the key. So not only do we have anti-inflammation and the evening out of skin tone, but also a big thing for anti-aging.”

In an interview with WWD, Bassett said she wants people to pay attention to their skin and see what works best for it. “I like them to be pleased when they look in the mirror, to feel good about themselves and the condition of their complexion,” she said.

The line, which will be released in July and sold by Harrods, includes a foam cleanser, enzyme cleanser, face cream, face cream rich and a hyaluronic serum.
