Alleged Adulteress Avoids Stoning Sentence

People throughout the world are letting out a collective sigh. Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani, who was sentenced to death by stoning in Iran for an alleged adultery, has escaped being put to death by stoning. In response to an international outcry by human rights activists and celebrities, Iranian media outlets are reporting that Ashtiani will not be put to death by stoning. However, it is not clear if she will still be put to death by other methods. Perhaps they didn't get the memo. Not only is the method barbaric, but so is the death penalty, particularly for something like adultery.
