For the past three decades, Mary J. Blige has provided us with everlasting life through song like no artist before her. And to celebrate her various contributions to the entertainment industry, she’ll be honored with BET’s Lifetime Achievement Award later this month at the 19th annual BET Awards.
According to BET, the 2019 BET Awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, June 23, at 8 pm ET and will be broadcast live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
This latest accolade serves as a testament to Blige’s reign as the undisputed Queen of Hip-Hop Soul. Since arriving on the scene in 1989, she’s sold more than 50 million albums worldwide, collected nine Grammys, been nominated for two Golden Globes and a Screen Actors Guild Award, and snagged two Academy Award nominations after becoming the first artist to be nominated for Best Supporting Actress and Best Original Song for her contributions to Netflix’s Mudbound.
Last month, Blige joined forces with Queensbridge rap legend Nas to unleash the summer anthem “Thriving,” which serves as an appetizer before they hit the road this summer for a co-headlining tour.
Congrats, Mary. I already know whatever dance she delivers on stage to celebrate will be epic.
