(The Root) — Stacey Muhammad, the filmmaker and activist behind the award-winning short film I Am Sean Bell, Black Boys Speak, is back with a dramatic new work.

Pariah's Rob Morgan and The Wire's Julito McCullum star in Muhammad's new Web series, Redemption, for Colored Boys, which zeros in on a man's efforts to gel back into the family picture after a nine-year prison stint. Benjamin Boyd Sr.'s (Morgan) family is not so accepting of his efforts to reclaim the role of husband and father, especially Eric (McCullum), who is now a 20-year-old man-child.

In the first episode of the season, we are introduced to Boyd's wife (Tiye Phoenix), who shows her reluctance to let her husband back into her home; Eric's protective side when it comes to his sister, Sidney; and the uncomfortable friction between a longing father and his bitter son.
