Sinbad just shared a special message of appreciation with fans for supporting him through his recent health challenges.
“Thank you for your prayers, support, and positive thoughts. They’ve carried me this far and will see me through to the finish line. It really is a different world out here!” he captioned a March 4 Instagram post – his first since 2022.
The actor and comedian spent time in a medically-induced coma after suffering a stroke in October of 2020 due to a blood clot that traveled from his heart to his brain.
“Sinbad is a light source of love and joy for many generations. While he is beginning his road to recovery, we are faithful and optimistic that he will bring laughter into our hearts soon,” his family said in a statement shared with The Hollywood Reporter at the time. “Our family thanks you in advance for your love and support and ask for continued prayers for his healing. We also ask that you please respect our privacy during this time.”
Now, after nine months of surgeries, physical, occupational and speech therapy, the 67-year-old is working to regain his health at home.
And one of his first public appearances was during a special event with his “A Different World” cast mates. Series stars Kadeem Hardison, Jasmine Guy, Darryl M. Bell, Dawnn Lewis, Cree Summer, Charnele Brown, Glynn Turman and producer/director Debbie Allen are in the middle of a ten-city reunion tour of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) around the country in hopes of inspiring raising awareness and scholarship funds for a new generation of students. Sinbad appeared via Zoom on February 29 and spoke to the crowd at the Atlanta University Center, home to Spelman College, Morehouse College and Clark Atlanta University.
In his Instagram post, Sinbad, who is watching a clip of the enthusiastic applause he received at the event, said he can’t believe the audience of young people even knows who he is. But he promised fans he’d return soon.
“Expect to see more of me soon. And don’t freak out if you turn around and I’m standing right behind you,” he said. “Miracles happen.
Wanda Sykes, Cedric the Entertainer and Yvette Nicole Brown were among the celebrities who shared their well wishes on the comedian’s post.
“This made me so happy! Love you so much,” wrote Holly Robinson Pete.
