Less than two weeks before the popular ABC series “Abbott Elementary” comes back to small screens around the country, the beloved show is already showing its impact extends far beyond just television.
On Tuesday, it was revealed that the show will kick off its “Lunch Break with Abbott Elementary National Tour.” Beginning in New York City before hitting 18 additional states, the tour will feature a giant, “street-legal” “Abbott Elementary”-themed lunch box vehicle that will act as a surprise popup at famous landmarks on each tour stop. Per Variety, teachers and staff in underserved school districts will also receive Abbott Elementary-themed tin lunch boxes with sandwiches, sides and beverages sourced from local businesses as well as a reusable “Abbott Elementary” tote bags filled with school supplies.
The “Lunch Break with Abbott Elementary National Tour” is expected to give out over 10,000 school supplies. Major cities on the tour announced thus far include, Atlanta, Dallas, Los Angeles and Philadelphia.
This is yet another notch on “Abbott”’s philanthropy belt. As previously reported by The Root, in 2022, the show and ABC teamed up with Scholastic to provide free book fairs for underfunded schools across the country. Students at seven Title 1 schools went home with two free books while teachers took 10 for their classrooms.
Both the show and cast members have also continuously been vocal about the importance of providing better resources to under-funded schools.
“Ultimately, I believe public schools should be better funded/ supplied. However, in the meantime, Abbott (the tv show and people behind it) are really excited about doing things like this,” show creator Quinta Brunson said at the time.
The tour is the latest example of the show making good on their promises.
Abbot Elementary season 3 premieres on February 7, and seasons 1-2 are available to stream now on Hulu.
