A Wrinkle in Time’s European Premiere Made Us Wonder if Everything’s Better With a British Accent

OK, it’s time to take to a long-overdue trip across the pond, because they clearly know how to throw a better party than we do. Fresh off its strong opening weekend here in the U.S., A Wrinkle in Time took a transatlantic trip for its European premiere in London, and we now officially envy the English.

The talented trinity of Ava DuVernay, Oprah Winfrey and young star Storm Reid were all dazzling on the AWIT carpet, with DuVernay and Storm both opting to wear custom-made Prada in high-powered hues. Oprah stuck to a more subdued black-and-white palette, pairing an asymmetrically hemmed plaid chiffon skirt by Brunello Cucinelli with a waist-cinching, obi-style belt in black leather.

Local talent showed up ready to shine as well—but not as bright as the stars. We were especially enamored with Storm’s bright-pink satin frock, which was both a playful and very pretty silhouette on the young star.

But it was the afternoon tea, hosted for Oprah by British Vogue’s editor-in chief, Edward Enniful, that really looked lit. Several members of our black British royalty came out to celebrate, including Idris Elba, director Steve McQueen, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and Chiwetel Ejiofor—who may or may not be my forever crush. Famed writer Salman Rushdie and Game of Thrones and Star Wars star Gwendoline Christie were also in attendance, making it a pretty enviable invitation to score.

We guess ours was lost somewhere in A Wrinkle in Time.
