For those who guessed that Kanye West’s parting of the ways with his longtime manager last week was to make room for Mama Kris—you were right.
Page Six reports that Kris Jenner, hustling matriarch of the Kardashian clan, has taken on not only rapper-producer West, who is married to her daughter Kim Kardashian, but also singer Travis Scott, baby fava to Jenner’s youngest daughter, Kylie.
Sources say that Jenner was behind West’s firing of Izvor “Izzy” Zivkovic last week, as well as Scott’s departure from his Three Six Zero management team.
We here at The Root don’t need sources to know that this is 100 percent true because Kris Jenner was born to steal the souls of black men. It’s her thing. When she isn’t pawning her children off to suck the life out of the hottest rappers or athletes, she’s actually soul snatching herself.
Since becoming Kanye Kardashian, the once vivacious and charismatic rapper has turned into a caricature of himself. It’s as if a morose Kanye were playing Kanye. It makes sense that the final part of Jenner’s plan is to have the blackest Kardashian man under her puppet strings.
“Kris is in [West’s] ears,” says a source, according to Page Six. “Kanye’s been making changes and [he and Zivkovic] have grown apart—but Kris definitely gives her opinion and Kanye’s all ears. She’s about brand building and is gangster at it.”
Does this mean that we should expect a Kanye West legging line? Dad-bod Yeezy season? When it comes to branding, West appeared to be doing a fine job himself. While his Matrix-meets-skid-row clothing line left a lot to be desired, his Yeezy sneakers can’t stay on the shelf. I’m not sure how having Jenner at the helm of West’s brand helps West, but I sure see how it helps Mama Kardashian.
By navigating the careers of actual talents, Jenner has the opportunity to Lyor Cohen her way into hip-hop, and old Kanye would’ve known better than this. We all miss Donda’s son, because truthfully, we don’t know who the hell this guy is.
And I’m not sure if anyone has noticed, but Kanye West and Travis Scott are not white women. West and Scott are musicians and not whatever those Kardashian girls are. Does Kris Jenner have experience with music management? What can she do for Yeesuz that hasn’t already been done? Also, what happens if Kim and Kanye or Kylie and Travis fall out? With whom will her loyalties lie: her daughters or her clients?
This “momager” situation rarely works out (see Beyoncé and Mathew Knowles, Michael Jackson and Papa Joe), especially at this level.
Let’s just pray that that kryptonite Kardashian kooch doesn’t ruin these two—body, soul and career.
