Memorial Day was less of a holiday for a Brooklyn mother but more of a horror movie after she told New York police she witnessed an alleged murder-suicide involving her own son.
Authorities say they responded to shots fired at an apartment on Ocean Ave in Midwood Monday morning. Norma Knight told the NY Daily News that she woke up from her sleep to hear her 35-year-old son, Teddy, arguing with his girlfriend, 29-year-old Tanezia Blockwood. The couple’s 2-year-old son and 3-year-old girl were present in the apartment during the debacle, the report says.
Knight told reporters the children were part of the reason the two were in a disagreement.
“They have [had] problems for a long time. The children, the rent,” said Ms. Knight. Blockwood’s aunt also told The Daily News the woman had plans to move herself and her children away to a new place.
However, things escalated as Blockwood tried to pack her things and make her exit.

“He went somewhere in the cupboard and I saw he took out a gun and he started shooting her,” said Norma, 65, who shares the Avenue I and Ocean Avenue apartment with the couple. “He gave her two bullets and she fell on the floor and then he stomped her in her face.”
Then he shot himself in plain view of his shocked mom, she said.
Responding cops found the two lifeless bodies, both with gunshot wounds to the head, around 10:10 a.m. near a kitchen, authorities said.
Blockwood’s aunt told The Daily News the couple had been together for eight years before the blow up. Blockwood was just finishing nursing school and worked at a local hospital ahead of the shooting, per the report.
Authorities are still investigating the incident. Though it appears as such, police have not officially ruled the shooting as a murder-suicide.
