A video has resurfaced of a violent arrest involving a Black woman and a Manchester, Ga. police officer. Upon the investigation into the incident, it seems this is just the latest bit of trouble this cop has been involved in.
In a clip from the June 10 incident, obtained by WSB-TV 2 Atlanta, Zykerria Bowles was seen sitting on a curb while Manchester Officer Donavan Scott-Sinclair detained another woman. The officer then made his way over to her as she shouted at him and grabbed her by the front of her shirt. The two scuffled for a moment before Scott-Sinclair slung her to the ground.
“Get off of me!” she yelled while being wrangled on the ground. “Okay! Okay! Okay!” she then yelled, seemingly in surrender.
Bowles continued to try to wiggle from the officer’s grip until he eventually Tased her, per the video.
“Forreal?” Bowles said while being shocked.
In the video, the officer ordered her to turn around on her stomach and she was handcuffed behind her back. Moments before the events in the video, Bowles was pulled over for not wearing a seatbelt when they noticed a strong marijuana odor coming from the vehicle, according to a statement from the department. The officers then discovered a container holding marijuana found underneath Bowles’ seat.
The department said in a press release the use of force was justified because Bowles allegedly punched Scott-Sinclair while she resisted arrest. Upon an internal investigation, authorities said found the officer did not act inappropriately in his application of physical force.
“I was scared for my life out there,” she said in a press conference. “[I felt] hurt… violated.”
The local NAACP chapter called for the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to launch a probe into the incident as well as for the officer to be fired. However, being fired hasn’t stopped him before...
Check out more of Scott-Sinclair’s record from WBS-TV:
Channel 2 Action News pulled officer Donavon Scott-Sinclair’s POST record. It showed he was fired from the Fort Valley Police Department in 2018.
The record also showed he bounced from different law enforcement agencies and was placed on probation in 2019. POST did not explain why.
In 2020, while working security at a bar, investigators said Scott-Sinclair got into an altercation and subsequently shot and killed a man. Scott-Sinclair faced murder charges, but those charges were later dropped.
The report says Bowles faces obstruction of justice, battery on an officer and disorderly conduct charges.
It’s unclear if Scott-Sinclair faced any discipline given the pending internal review by the city. At the moment, he’s still an active duty officer.
