Instead of spending her birthday treating herself, a 9-year-old Detroit girl decided to show her appreciation for some of the city's cops by bringing them lunch, WWJ reports.

According to the news station, Samya McLaughlin brought the city's 11th Precinct officers bagged lunches of sandwiches, chips, fruit and a cookie, paying for the lunches with her own birthday money.

“I was thinking that I should feed the police officers because I wanted to show them that I support them and I thank them for all that they do,” the little girl said. “I wanted to show them that all lives matter.”

Samya's grandmother said that after watching the news and seeing the coverage of the Dallas police shootings, the little girl decided to do something special for her local officers.

Samya was made "Officer of the Day" for her gesture and the officers gave her gifts in return as a thank you.

“It makes you feel proud,” Samya’s father, Sam Walker, said. “She has a big heart and she knows how to care, and she knows how to appreciate what’s going on.”

In addition to the cops' lunches, Samya passed out some 30 bagged lunches to the homeless in Detroit's Cass Corridor, the news station notes.
