Lillie McClendon is no pushover, and she made sure to demonstrate that Sunday to a would-be burglar who broke into her home and demanded money, ABC News reports.
The 83-year-old Houston native had just stepped out of the shower and put some clothes in the laundry when she noticed an open window and that her house seemed a bit out of place. That was when the intruder approached her.
“I couldn’t see his face, just his eyes like that. All he was asking about was, ‘Where’s the money at? Where’s the money at?’” McClendon said, according to ABC affiliate KTRK-TV.
That was when she proceeded to give the burglar a good scolding.
“I told him, I said, ‘What kind of momma you got that raised you up like this? You ought to be ashamed of yourself,’” McClendon, whose birthday was Wednesday, told the station.
The intruder began choking the elderly woman, still demanding money. But McClendon wasn’t standing for it.
“Oh, shoot yeah. I got a stick and tried to hit him,” the brave woman said. “I had sausage on the stove. I put hot water on him.”
That got the burglar to leave (though not without some injuries) sans money and, thankfully for McClendon and her family, without doing much harm, the site notes.
