8-Year-Old Girl in Chicago Gunned Down While Jumping Rope

Tanaja Stokes, 8, was gunned down while jumping rope in the Chicago neighborhood of Roseland. While she was jumping rope with friends, two gunmen on bicycles rode up and open-fired. Chicago is in the midst of a summer filled with gun violence. To add insult to injury, the Supreme Court struck down the handgun ban imposed by the city. On Tuesday a young woman was shot dead by her former fiancé; on Monday a 5-year-old twin was accidentally shot dead with a gun he found; a man was killed by a bullet from what police believe to be rival gangs; a 15-year-old was shot dead; and an 8-year-old boy was nearly killed on his way home from church. What is going on in Chicago? This is completely unacceptable. When will the violence stop, and who will stop it?
