A huge crowd of people flooded the public housing office in East Point Wednesday, hoping to get on the waiting list for housing assistance. Tens of thousands of people overtook the office, standing in sweltering heat, waiting for an application.  A heavy police presence was there, along with ambulances assisting those overcome by heat. The office reported that more than 13,000 applications were given out. We are not going to even ask why the process isn't online, and who thought it was a good idea to hand out applications in sweltering heat? What's really sad is that this many people, most of them black, are desperate for housing that many of them won't be able to access. Public housing in East Point is currently full. They have opened the list for the first time since 2002 for an additional 400 units. It is estimated that 30,000 people showed up for an application. There are no words.
