For the 2024 Met Gala, celebs brought their best fairy tale fashion to match the theme, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” and the dress code, “The Garden of Time.” Stars like Zendaya, Colman Domingo, Donald Glover, Lil Nas X and Ayo Edebiri shut down the red carpet.
Sometimes the theme can be a little generic, which leads to a wide range of looks, but “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion” definitely lets everyone know that they’re expected to bring their most outrageous fairy tale couture.
Even with a theme and a dress code, it often feels like there are no rules on The Met Gala red carpet, which makes it so interesting. Stars are only limited by their own imagination. How far do they want to push the theme?
The annual event is to raise money for The Costume Institute and to debut the newest exhibit at the museum. Co-chairing alongside Vogue Editor-In-Chief Anna Wintour are “Challengers” star Zendaya, music superstar Bad Bunny, MCU hero Chris Hemsworth and actress/singer Jennifer Lopez.
As much as the red carpet is about the jaw-dropping fashion, it’s also that iconic staircase. Many of these outfits are not designed with those stairs in mind, but somehow the stars make it work.
Fun fact: For the totally impractical looks, there’s a pop-up changing room just inside the entrance, as well as a place where trains, capes and headpieces are kept so guests can actually enjoy their meals. A special closet for capes and headpieces is something you’d only see at this party. And don’t expect to see any selfies or videos from inside the event, because that’s a major no-no and guests will suffer the wrath of Anna Wintour if they break that rule.
The Met Gala is just one of those signature celebrity events that us normal people will never truly understand, so we’re living vicariously through our favorite stars. In case you somehow weren’t invited to one of the most exclusive parties in the world, these are Black stars’ best fashion of the 2024 Met Gala.
