2019 SAG Awards: John David Washington and Mahershala Ali Snag Noms, But That Actress List...

And the “actor” goes to... maybe some black folks.

SAG-AFTRA’s annual celebration of its talent is near once again, and the nominations are in.

As Deadline noted, The 25th Annual Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards nominations were held in West Hollywood on Wednesday. Laverne Cox and Awkwafina presented the nominations for the guild’s film and television categories.

John David Washington (BlacKkKlansman) and Mahershala Ali (Green Book) are gunning for the Lead Actor and Supporting Actor statuette, respectively.

Reigning SAG champ Sterling K. Brown is up for the Male Actor in a Drama Series award once again for This Is Us.

Black Panther and BlacKkKlansman are both in the running for the Outstanding Cast award in film, while Atlanta and This Is Us are representing for television in their respective genre categories.

Shout-out to the black stunt crew members from Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War, as well.

The immediate snubs that come to mind are Viola Davis (Widows) and If Beale Street Could Talk actors Stephan James, Brian Tyree Henry, Colman Domingo, Michael Beach, Kiki Layne, Teyonah Parris and the criminally underrated Aunjanue Ellis. The latter film should’ve gotten a cast nomination, at the very least.

Speaking of snubs...

Despite everyone and their mama seeing it for “The Reginas” (Regina King and Regina Hall) this season so far, their own thespian peers aren’t, it seems. King and Hall have racked up Golden Globe, African American Film Critics and Critics Choice (King, only) nominations, to name a few. And they’re just getting started. So, surely they would’ve gotten SAG noms, right? Wrong. I never been so surprised—yet, not surprised—at being wrong.

In fact, the entire film actress list is... white. The television list isn’t any better (there’s one for Sandra Oh), but no blackness.

Let the #SAGSoWhite begin...
