The blackest night in entertainment is returning for another round this summer! You hear that? It’s the sound of Bardi Gang rolling their tongues to scream a rousing, “Okurrt!”

That’s right, 2019 is the year of Cardi B, who leads the pack of 2019 BET Awards nominations. The Invasion of Privacy artist racked in a total of seven noms, including Best Female Hip-Hop Artist and Album of the Year.

Drake is second on the leaders board with five noms, including Male Hip-Hop Artist and is going toe-to-toe with Cardi (who has two noms in the same category) for the Video of the Year win.

Beyoncé, Travis Scott, and J. Cole tie for the bronze, each receiving four nominations.

As for film, it looks like visceral and heartfelt stories dominated — BlacKkKlansman, Creed II, If Beale Street Could Talk, Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, and The Hate U Give received nominations this year for Best Movie.

The children are our future and this year’s Young Stars Award noms include a promising bunch, from Marsai Martin to Caleb McLaughlin.

And as always, sports counts as entertainment at the BET Awards with the Sportsman/Sportswoman of The Year awards. Sports juggernauts such as LeBron James and Serena Williams are up for those in their respective categories.

“Eighteen years ago, we launched the BET Awards, and since then, we have celebrated cool in ways that can’t be duplicated elsewhere,” Connie Orlando, Executive Vice President, Head of Programming at BET, said in an official press release. “From Michael Jackson and James Brown busting dance moves together to Monique paying homage to Beyoncé in an unforgettable dance number to BET reuniting The Fugees, we have set the tone for what cool looks like. This year, we are even more so committed to continuing to create the unforgettable moments that have made the “BET Awards” the preeminent celebration of black culture. From the entire BET family, we congratulate each nominee and look forward to celebrating their talent and contributions at the 2019 ‘BET Awards.’”
