Ghana vs. Portugal is one of the deciding games of the World Cup, since only one of the playing teams will be in the last 16 for the series. However, things took an interesting turn when two star players for the Ghanaian team were indefinitely suspended and sent home by coach Kwesi Appiah, Yahoo Sports reports.
AC Milan’s Sulley Muntari and Schalke’s Kevin-Prince Boateng were apparently handed down the punishment because of their behavior. Muntari allegedly slapped a member of the national management committee, while Boateng reportedly insulted the coach, the news site notes.
“The decision was taken in the wake of his unprovoked physical attack on an Executive Committee member of the Ghana Football Association and a management member of the Black Stars, Mr. Moses Armah on Tuesday 24th June, 2014 during a meeting,” the national organization said in a statement addressing Muntari’s situation, according to Yahoo. “Muntari’s accreditation for the 2014 World Cup has been withdrawn with immediate effect.”
The organization claims that “the decision was taken following Boateng’s vulgar verbal insults targeted at coach Kwesi Appiah during the team’s training session in Maceio this week. Boateng has since showed no remorse for his actions, which has resulted in the decision. Boateng’s accreditation for the 2014 World Cup has been withdrawn with immediate effect.”
