The Caribbean Cultural Center African Diaspora Institute, in conjunction with the Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts, will host an opening reception for two photography exhibits that explore race and youth culture on Saturday, June 16, at MoCADA in the Fort Greene neighborhood of Brooklyn, N.Y.
The work of lensmen Malik Cumbo, Russell Frederick, Jahse, Dwayne Rogers and Radcliffe Roye, all of whom are from Brooklyn, will be featured in "H(A)UNTED: A Visual Response to the Murder of Trayvon Martin." The highly stylized photos show black men in hoodies in honor of the murdered teen, recalling the struggles of living in a not-so-postracial world.
New York artist Delphine Fawundu-Buford takes on the subject of black and Latino youths in the age of Obama in her exhibit "In a Time of Change."
The opening is a part of the official kickoff for the 2012 Soul of Brooklyn festival, a weeklong cultural event held throughout the New York City borough from June 16 to June 23, featuring theatrical performances, musical acts, art showcases and other activities. Both photo exhibits will be on display at MoCADA until July 16.
