A 19-year-old Houston mother was killed in a drive-by shooting Tuesday, the International Business Times reports.
According to the report, a black Camaro drove through the parking lot of Kendra Childs' apartment complex, with five shots fired from the car into a second-floor apartment. Childs was killed. Her boyfriend discovering her body the day of the shooting.
News about the young mother's death went viral on Twitter, with the hashtag #RIPKendra surfacing. IBT reports that many of the tweets about Childs' death contained screenshots of violent messages from an ex-girlfriend of Child's boyfriend.
“Nothing makes me mad about a bitch saying she was with my [n—ga] or whatever cause like I tell him..the hoe won’t be around too long," an Aug. 11 message from Twitter user @__ladykocaine read.
Two months ago, that same Twitter user wrote, “My plan is to plot for a year… And I’m gone kill them people. [I don’t give a f—-] if the [police] see this.”
That apparent ex-girlfriend hasn't tweeted since Childs' death, IBT notes.
Childs' family believe that she was targeted.
“I feel very broken, and it just hurt because she didn't deserve to go like this. I understand it was her time, but she didn't have to go like this. She didn't even make it to her birthday tomorrow,” Angel Whitaker, Childs' cousin, told KTRK-TV Wednesday. “Whoever did this, they were wrong and we will get justice for her.
According to IBT, the Houston Police Department said that the tweets were being investigated.
“We’re aware of it and we’ve gotten multiple calls,” Victor Sentries, the department's public affairs spokesman, told IBT in a phone interview. “We take any lead and will investigate it to check on its credibility.” He added: “This is currently an ongoing investigation.”
Childs leaves behind a 2-year-old daughter.
