“One Sweet Day,” folks are going to get out of their “Emotions,” admit the real reason they’re so “Obsessed” with Colin Kaepernick and why they kneel, and recognize him as the “Hero” he’s been in making a portion of otherwise complacent NFL lovers more conscious about racism and police brutality.
What can I say? I have a “Vision of Love,” and “I Still Believe.”
But forget that “Fantasy” for now, because as Mariah Carey recently found out after posting a pic with the NFL star-turned star activist, willful obliviousness is still alive and thriving in America.
Proving that fans of pop music have no idea who its daddy is, after reading Mariah’s caption that it was “such an honor” to meet Kaep, several of her steadfast fans felt free to stage a MAGA rally in her comments section. I know you can’t possibly imagine a random gang of previously Mariah-loving right-wingers giving their unsolicited opinions on the meeting, demanding she retract, bullying her to delete her account and threatening their withdrawal from the “Lambily,” but trust, it happened.
And granted, it likely wasn’t fortuitous timing for the star, who just released her latest album, Caution, on Friday. But still, she persisted in keeping the pic up. Because, as one commenter noted:
“She is already rich! Really rich. It won’t be missed. You forgot she was part black? 🤣”
Yes, kids, in case you forgot, Mariah Carey is a biracial woman who has always kept a foot firmly in R&B, once married an unambiguously black man and has two children with him. Saving black lives from police brutality is understandably within the scope of her concerns. The backlash? We’re guessing she’ll just “Shake It Off.”
And besides, it worked for Nike.
