What Just Happened Between Tiffany Haddish and Katt Williams?

It took all of one weekend for Katt Williams and Tiffany Haddish to start—and then squash—their beef. Though, to be fair, the feud seemed pretty one-sided to begin with.

Williams set the whole thing off last Friday, during a guest appearance on Atlanta’s Frank and Wanda in the Morning. His interview was newsworthy for several reasons—but mostly for his appraisal of other noteworthy comedians, including Mo’Nique, Kevin Hart, and Tiffany Haddish.

“She has not proven the ability to tell jokes back-to-back for an hour to nobody,” Williams said about Haddish. He also insinuated she had lied about an abusive relationship.

“She had a white husband for all of the 14 years she’s been doing comedy and then all of a sudden divorced him. Then said he abused her. Then wrote a book. Then said he didn’t and then now we’re at Brad Pitt,” he said, alluding to Haddish’s joke that she was dating Brad Pitt. Williams implied that jokes like that were the rising comedian’s way of appealing to white audiences.

In short, it was a mess.

Haddish first responded to Williams’ comments on Twitter within hours of the interview airing.

“It’s official I made it! @KattPackAllDay talked about me and didn’t have his facts right!” she tweeted, along with the video. (From Queens, New York, apparently!)

She also countered Williams’ fountain of haterade with ... love.

“I look forward to seeing you on Monday Katt, when we pick up our Emmys,” wrote the Girls Trip star, who has, in fact, gone on tour and has secured a Netflix comedy special for next year.

“I just want to shower you with REAL love cause you need it, and I Love you,” Haddish wrote.

She must have made good on her promise. The pair were on hand at the Emmys Monday night to accept their respective awards, Williams for guest actor in a comedy series (for his unforgettable turn as Uncle Willy, aka “The Alligator Man” in Atlanta), and Haddish for guest actress in a comedy series (for hosting SNL). And, somewhere backstage, the two ran into each other. And that run-in begat this picture, shared on Haddish’s Instagram (h/t Page Six):

The photo appears to show Williams kneeling (in deference? In apology?) to Haddish, who captioned the photo thusly: “#Emmys2018 #success #winner.”

That’s certainly a happier ending than the alleged dispute between Williams and radio host Wanda Smith. After Williams delivered scathing remarks about his peers, the pair got into a roast-session at the end of his interview (“You probably shouldn’t talk about sizes, because you big on the radio,” Williams told Smith, after she referred to the diminutive comedian as “little mama”). Apparently, it wasn’t just jokes—and certainly wasn’t all love—as Smith’s husband allegedly got into an altercation with Williams outside a comedy club on Saturday night. As the Atlanta Journal Constitution reports, there may or may not have been a gun involved.

Here’s hoping that’s the last of the fallout from Williams’ wild, messy interview.
