Your favorite artist is back and he’s balling!
Rapper Lil Wayne (born Wayne Carter) has been in an ongoing lawsuit against Bryan “Birdman” Williams’ record label, Cash Money Records, and on Thursday he won an eight-figure settlement.
According to contracts, Wayne was supposed to receive an $8 million advance for recording his album Tha Carter V, and $2 million when the project was done; he didn’t receive a dime. Wayne wasn’t about to play with his money and wanted his contract terminated, and he sued Cash Money, which held up the release of the record.
Wayne’s attorney, Howard King, filed a notice on May 23 stating that all parties were ready to dismiss the lawsuit.
Weezy was paid “well over $10 million” by Universal Music Group (none came from Birdman), and the company is betting that the new Drake and Nicki Minaj albums will enable it to recoup its money, according to The Blast.
Now we’re just patiently waiting for Tha Carter V to be released by Universal (not Cash Money) so we can get on with our lives and hear the real music we’ve been missing out on.
