A Milwaukee man accused of sex trafficking and prostituting a high school student was turned in by the girl’s high school teacher, who also happened to be the man’s mother.
According to the Journal Sentinel, 50-year-old Sean Hayes is facing one felony count of trafficking a child for sex, among other charges.
Hayes’ mother is a teacher at the James E. Groppi High School and she tipped off the authorities after the girl, one of her students, told her that she was working with her son in his escort business.
The criminal complaint, which was filed in November, indicates that the girl, then 17, was living in a group home when Hayes approached her at a bus stop, telling her she’d make a good model. Hayes gave the girl a card for a business called “Shining Stars Adult Entertainment.”
The next day, according to the victim, Hayes had sex with her, and then, between August and October of last year, she worked for him under the name “Honey,” traveling from Milwaukee to the cities of Waukesha, Wauwatosa and Green Bay in Wisconsin and even Chicago.
According to prosecutors, Hayes pressured the girl to have sex with him on at least one occasion, telling her it was “to gain her trust,” according to Fox6Now.
On one trip from Chicago to Milwaukee, Hayes took a call from his mother, which the 17-year-old could hear, immediately recognizing the voice as her teacher’s, authorities say.
The girl later told her teacher what was happening, saying that she had been missing her classes “because she had been working as an escort for her son.”
Hayes’ mother called the police and had her son arrested.
The Sentinel notes that Hayes has denied all the allegations and is currently out on bail.
